3 Surprising Insights About Microsoft: A Newcomer's Perspective

As a recent addition to the Microsoft team, I've been blown away by what I've discovered in just a few short weeks. In this article I want to share three key insights that have impressed me. These observations might challenge some preconceptions and shed light on why Microsoft continues to be a leader in the industry.

1. Women in Leadership: DEI in Action

One of the first things that struck me was the impressive number of women in leadership roles at Microsoft. In an industry often criticized for its "boys' club" mentality, Microsoft stands out as a beacon of change. It's refreshing to see so many women in leadership roles, gives me a lot of hope!

This commitment to diverse leadership isn't just good for employees—it's good for business. Different perspectives lead to better decision-making and more innovative solutions. Microsoft seems to have understood this fundamental truth and is reaping the benefits.

2. Business Process and Go-to-Market Excellence

Microsoft's ability to scale products and bring them to market is nothing short of impressive. It's like watching a well-oiled machine in action. They have clearly perfected the art and science of selling tech products. Every day feels like a masterclass in business process management and scaling go-to-market (GTM) teams. As I am working through my MBA at Wharton I am getting exposed to best practices in operational efficiency and GTM, I am finding a lot of those practices in action here at Microsoft. From product development to marketing strategies to sales processes and customer support, every aspect is meticulously planned and executed. This expertise didn't happen overnight. It's the result of decades of experience, continuous learning, and adaptation. I am excited to learn more.

3. Employee Satisfaction and Long Tenures

Perhaps the most telling sign of Microsoft's success as an employer is the long tenure of its employees. The number of long-term employees at Microsoft is remarkable. This longevity speaks volumes about their commitment to internal mobility and career development. Employees don't feel the need to leave to grow their careers—they can do it right here at Microsoft. The result? A workforce of really happy people who are invested in the company's success.

Looking Ahead

In just a few weeks, I've gained invaluable insights into what makes Microsoft, Microsoft! I'm excited for what's to come and looking forward to contributing to this dynamic organization. If my experience so far is any indication, the future at Microsoft looks bright indeed!
